Cask Marque & CAMRA Guide 2019!

We are a classic village pub with wood burning stoves in winter, an elevated beer garden for summer and a warm welcome all year round.

You can find your favourite spot for you, your family and friends (including your four legged one).

We’re delighted to announce the new manager of The Spotted Cow will be Denise Sage. Denise is a very experienced manager with a strong track record as a driving force behind several award-winning local pubs, including The Exeter Arms and the Old Silk Mill in Derby and The Devonshire in Belper. We feel fortunate to have secured Denise’s services and look forward with great confidence to the contribution she will make to your wonderful pub.

Excellent community pub! Excellent service and choice of ales. Real fire log burner and good pub food. All you can ask for in a pub. Would recommend the community café Spotted Calf next door for breakfast too!

Wonderful classic pub meal! My partner and I recently visited here looking for somewhere different to eat out for lunch. Although we expected your typical western pub grub, we were pleasantly surprised by how delightful the food was! Although the meals were classics, they must have been sourced from locals as it was filled with flavour! Not your bland supermarket foods. I had the gammon, and it was the BEST gammon steak I’ve had in a long time! The atmosphere was lovely and calm, and the staff were very helpful and pleasant too. Overall this was a lovely experience and one we intend to go back to 🥰 Thanks! Tony

beautiful beers and delicious fresh food We were delighted with the choice and quality of real ales at The Spotted Cow, then the food was also amazing - delicious and beauifully cooked with fresh local produce. It's a lovely building too, and has a fine garden to enjoy the views from. The staff were also wonderful with a friendly warm welcome, making even more of a difference while we're all following current guidelines carefully! thank you!

An excellent break I've just spent 2 nights at the spotted cow and a cliché as it sounds, I haven't slept this well in months! The room was cosy, well lit and all required amenities were available, the shower was lovely etc etc. But it's the extra touches where the spotted cow excels, the fridge in the room was furnished with fresh milk, on the table were small packets of cereal and for those of you who like a truly silent night, they even supplied ear plugs (individual packs). Those staff on site were also great, after what feels like a lifetime in customer service, you tend to notice when someone is using the "false friendly" approach, I didn't get that sense at all from Roxanne and Mike, very friendly, very helpful and just so charming, they really went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. In short, they made us feel welcome and cared for during these unprecedented times and I can't thank them enough for the hospitality. While staying there we also went into the bar for a meal, I'm a person with a healthy appetite but the food here defeated me, cooked as requested and delivered in a timely manner from friendly waitstaff, in a very warm, relaxed atmosphere, I felt guilty for actually leaving anything on the plate (the mushroom ciabatta starter was too die for). If you happen to be in the area, consider staying here, if you're not in the area? Make the trip, it's worth it. Roxanne and Mike will make sure you have a great stay.

Perfect stay in a very quaint village We stayed in the guest room above the pub and loved it. Big car park, lovely pub downstairs with local ales and food. Staff were all perfect.

A fantastic stay in a charming village. Myself and my wife have just returned from a 3 night stay at the annexe of the Spotted Cow pub. The room itself was nice...very clean, and offered lovely views from it's dual aspect windows. The bed was comfy and the bathroom facilities were spot-on, having both a powerful shower and a large bath. What made our break a delight was the pub itself and it's charming location. Every member of staff was super friendly as were the locals enjoying a drink or meal in this community pub. Well done to Roxanne and team....we will return!!

Great to see the heart of the village open again! The new Manager took over about a week before lockdown, so unlucky, but she and the team have done a cracking job on the reopening. I've never seen the pub so spotless and the social distancing measures are excellent and enforced in a friendly way. Food was as delicious as ever, really good value and the team coping well with new restrictions ans still managing to smile. Well done and thank you!
