Why not find out more about Holbrook’s history? Two Roman kilns were discovered in the village in the 1960’s and the ancient Roman Portway runs through our middle. Our industrial past includes a heritage of stocking manufacture and you can see several stocking framework cottages in the village, including one, a listed building, which is accessed through the Spotted Cow car park.
The Spotted Cow pub, the Spotted Calf café and the post office are housed in a building which dates back to 1604 and stands in the centre of Holbrook conservation area. It was first listed as an ale house in 1861, then owned by James Sheldon, “a beer retailer and carpenter” back when people both ran a pub and had another job!
